Smart monitoring for historic bridges – The Chetwynd Bridge Project

In this webinar, Amber Brown will present Move Solutions innovative monitoring solutions for historic structures, with a focus on the Chetwynd Bridge in Staffordshire, England. This Grade II* listed cast-iron bridge required sensitive and advanced structural monitoring, leveraging Move Solutions wireless sensors and the MyMove IoT Platform to ensure both the preservation of the structure and the safety of its users.

Our special guest, Andy Beardsley from Terra Measurement, will share insights from the ongoing monitoring project at Chetwynd Bridge, commissioned by Amey. This case study highlights the use of 36 Accelerometers, 9 Dynamic Displacement Sensors, 15 Tiltmeters, and two Move Solutions Gateways to monitor the impact of traffic and other stressors on this historic bridge.

In this session, you will:

  • discover how Move Solutions wireless sensors and the MyMove IoT Platform were deployed to monitor a Grade II* listed structure with non-invasive techniques;
  • learn how the sensors were installed using high-strength magnets and adapted to the unique challenges of a historic bridge;
  • understand the critical role of continuous monitoring in tracking structural deterioration and preventing damage;
  • explore the benefits of real-time data collection, including the detection of illegal overweight vehicles and the use of Modal Frequency Analysis to assess long-term bridge behavior.

The session will conclude with a Q&A segment, allowing attendees to engage directly with our experts and deepen their understanding of smart structural monitoring in heritage sites.
